IN THE COMMUNITY: YOUTH LEADERSHIP

It’s been my pleasure to be involved with Durham Regional Police Service Youth In Policing initiative again, co-coordinating and facilitating public speaking portion of the winter program together with fellow members of Toastmasters International.

It’s been an extremely rewarding experience to empower these wonderful young leaders in their journey in effective communication. Over several sessions, we covered topics such as how to overcome fears of speaking in public, how to effectively utilize gestures & voice to enhance the message, how to write a speech in 15 minutes, how to speak off the cuff, and how to give effective speech evaluation to peers, and, most importantly, how to have fun while learning.

DRPS Youth In Policing is now accepting applications from youth for their summer program – you can learn more about the initiative and how to apply here.

To learn more about how Toastmasters can help improve communication, public speaking, and leadership skills in both youths and adults, reach out to me directly, I’ll be happy to share and/or connect you with a club near you.
